A Silly Tale To End A Great Week

It is an old tale that would usually be passed down to teach the younger generations on how to handle that once famous competition among the scribes. It has also been passed down to help ease the tension of difficult years. This year the only purpose of that ancient competition is to appease the wrath of the Sun God Helios. Scribes must be gathered from the four corners of the earth to compete. They must make note of love and compassion towards mankind. Even the educated scholars are unable to fathom how many stories it will take to fend off his wrath but they keep trying. Will the earth burn with his fury or can the anger of the Sun God be quenched?
The clan shakes their fist declaring that they will not be defeated and sends out a call for help. Seemingly out of nowhere they begin to pour in. Artist, authors, bards, dramatist, librettist, lyricist, metrist, odist, parodist, poetaster, rhymer and the lowly versifier diligently set out to create a love story that would make the God cry and bring relief from the unbearably hot conditions.
Looking down, Helios fell in love with a human of radiant beauty but before he could profess his affection she fell in a deep hole and was lost to him forever. At the same time, the stories of the artist came pouring through, forcing his heart to break. The heaven's opened up in a torrent and the land was quenched. The competition also managed to bring in a substantial income from the proceedings. And so, all was well once again.
And with my silly little tale complete, I and happy to say that it was a great IRWA meeting today in Fishers IN. Our attendance was excellent today and we had a  a wonderful presentation from our guest speaker, Jane Friedman. Thanks Jane for that wonderful presentation on self publishing and for all the valuable information that was shared.      The actual heat wave is over and school is about to start thankfully. I hope everyone had a pleasant summer although I am looking forward to getting rid of the kids and finally getting my house cleaned. The peace and quiet will also be nice. It has been a busy summer that left me little time to write or even keep up with my blog but I hope that will be remedied soon. I've learned a lot this year since I've taken up the position as treasurer for IRWA and it has been very rewarding. With their help and advice I hope to have my first romance novel available soon, but not too soon. I really need to study more on editing and polishing my work. With that said, have and excellent week, don't party too much, and never stop learning. The payoff in the end is worth every minute of the sacrifice.
